3 Practical Heating Options to Discuss for Homeowners in Methuen, Essex County, MA
MA Master Plumber #16290-PL-M | MA Sheet Metal license #25544 | 15+ Years of Regional Experience
Planning a new heating system or replacing existing equipment in Methuen? Start by comparing furnace, boiler and heat pump options against your property’s heating needs and existing connections. The installation discussion should cover sizing, connection changes, old-equipment removal, controls and startup—not just the equipment itself. Contact New Era Plumbing & HVAC at (978) 216-6742 to confirm current service availability for your address and request an assessment or estimate.
Compare Furnace, Boiler and Heat Pump Installation
Furnace Installation and Replacement
Discuss whether a furnace fits your property's heating needs, energy supply and existing ductwork. Ask how the proposed equipment will be sized and which connections would need to change. Thermostat compatibility, removal of the current unit and startup checks should also be addressed in the proposed scope. Visit New Era's furnace installation page for service information before requesting an assessment.
Boiler Installation and Replacement
If your property uses hydronic heating, discuss how a replacement boiler would work with the existing piping, heat distribution and controls. Review sizing, connection changes and removal of the old equipment rather than assuming a replacement will use every existing component. Ask what startup checks and operating guidance the proposal includes. Explore the boiler installation page for more service information.
Heat Pump Installation
Ask whether a heat pump suits your property and how the proposed configuration would fit with the existing heating setup. Discuss system sizing, equipment placement, required connections, heat distribution and thermostat controls. Confirm installation availability and project requirements with New Era before selecting equipment, including what operating instructions and maintenance guidance would be provided.

Heating Concerns to Raise Before Choosing Equipment
Start with Your Heating Concerns
These concerns are useful starting points for an assessment, not proof that a new system is necessary. Describe what you want to improve and ask whether the issue involves the equipment, heat distribution or controls. New Era’s heating services page provides another starting point for exploring service information.
Discuss Equipment Suitability and Sizing
Share your current system type, comfort concerns and any changes to the property. Ask how the proposed capacity will be determined rather than assuming the new equipment should match the old system’s size. Compare what each option would require before deciding on a furnace, boiler or heat pump.
Review Existing Connections and Controls
Review which ductwork or hydronic connections could remain and which would need alteration. Ask whether the thermostat is compatible with the proposed equipment and whether control changes are part of the estimate. Have the proposal distinguish included work from any work that needs separate attention.
Clarify Removal and Installation Scope
Request a written description of the proposed equipment, required connection changes and responsibility for removing the existing system. Clarify access requirements, exclusions and responsibility for any applicable permits or inspections. Confirm the project price, schedule and expected heating interruptions directly with New Era before agreeing to the work.
Discuss Startup and Handover
Ask which startup checks would be performed and how their results would be reviewed with you. Discuss a walkthrough of thermostat settings, operating instructions and maintenance needs. Request equipment manuals and keep the system details with your installation paperwork for future reference.
Heating Concerns to Mention During an Assessment
- Some rooms remain uncomfortable while others feel warm.
- The current heating system no longer seems to meet the property’s needs.
- Changes to the property raise questions about the right equipment size.
- Existing ductwork or hydronic connections may need changes for a new system.
- Thermostat controls are difficult to use or may not suit the proposed equipment.
- An estimate leaves equipment removal, connection work or startup checks unclear.

One of the best experiences I've ever had with a service company! I recently contacted New Era Plumbing & Hvac after discovering that my kitchen sink drain was leaking water into my basement in dracut same town as new era. Anyone who's dealt with leaking pipes knows that sinking feeling you get when you realize water is getting into your home. It's stressful, especially when you don't know how serious the problem might be. After looking into it further, I discovered that the original cast iron drain pipes in my basement were also leaking. My house was built in 1945, so these were some seriously old pipes! New Era had a plumbing technician at my house within an hour of calling. He thoroughly assessed the situation and even pointed out a few other plumbing issues, including my aging water heater, which was something I'd already been thinking about replacing. What really impressed me was how they handled the estimate. The technician put everything together right on his iPad and walked me through several options. I could replace just the leaking section, replace all the old cast iron sewer and drain lines, add a new water heater, or tackle everything at once. There was absolutely no pressure. Just honest recommendations, transparent pricing, and different options to fit my budget. The technician was incredibly friendly, down-to-earth, and genuinely seemed to care about helping me make the right decision. After reviewing the options, I decided to have everything done. The pricing was extremely fair considering the amount of work involved, and the value was simply too good to pass up. The project included: - Replacing the old cast iron sewer and drain pipes - Installing a brand-new water heater - Cutting and capping an old unused pipe - Repairing a separate leaking water line - Removing and disposing of all the old plumbing materials and debris Just 48 hours later, Steven L. and Mike showed up ready to get to work. Both guys arrived in uniform, smiling, friendly, and professional. Considering the mountain of plumbing work they had ahead of them, I couldn't believe how relaxed and confident they were. They made what seemed like a massive, stressful project feel like just another day at the office. That kind of confidence and professionalism puts a homeowner at ease. From the initial phone call and quick response time to the estimate, communication, pricing, and actual plumbing installation, the entire experience was outstanding. I've dealt with plenty of contractors and service companies over the years, and I can confidently say New Era Plumbing & Heating provided one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. You can tell this is a well-run company. Everyone I interacted with seemed genuinely happy to be there, took pride in their work, and treated me like a valued customer. Kudos to the owner for building such a great team and running such a professional operation. If you're looking for a reliable, honest, and professional plumbing company for drain pipe repairs, sewer line replacement, water heater installation, or general plumbing work, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend New Era Plumbing & Heating. Thank you to the entire team, especially Steven L. and Mike, for turning a stressful plumbing situation into such a positive experience. You guys absolutely earned this 5-star review!+1Posted on Google![]()

Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing a Heating System
Should I choose a furnace, boiler or heat pump?
Compare the options against your property’s heating needs, energy supply, existing connections and controls. Ask how each proposed system would be sized and what supporting changes it would require. Confirm suitability and installation availability with New Era before selecting equipment.
Should replacement equipment be the same size as my current system?
Make sizing part of the assessment rather than assuming the current equipment determines the replacement size. Share comfort concerns and property changes, then ask how the proposed capacity will be selected.
Can my existing ductwork, piping and thermostat stay?
Reuse needs to be assessed against the proposed equipment. Ask which connections and controls can remain, which need changes and whether those changes are included in the estimate. Do not assume reuse is included before the project scope is confirmed.
Installation Scope and Handover
What should I ask for in a heating installation estimate?
Request equipment details and a written scope addressing sizing, required connection changes, old-equipment removal, thermostat controls, startup checks and operating instructions. Ask for exclusions to be identified and clarify responsibility for any applicable permits or inspections.
Will removal of the old system and startup checks be included?
Confirm both directly with New Era and have them identified in the proposal. They are important items to discuss, but their inclusion depends on the agreed project scope.
What should I review before the installation is handed over?
Ask for a walkthrough of thermostat settings and operating instructions, a review of the startup checks performed and an explanation of maintenance needs. Request equipment manuals and retain the system details with your installation paperwork.

How much will heating installation cost, and how soon can it be scheduled?
Pricing and scheduling must be confirmed directly with New Era for your property and proposed work. Call (978) 216-6742 to request an assessment or estimate. Ask about current availability, the scope covered by the price and expected heating interruptions.
