Furnace Installation Planning

When comparing furnace options, review the available fuel or electrical supply, existing ductwork, thermostat compatibility, and any applicable venting requirements. Ask how the proposed equipment fits the home's heating needs and which connection or distribution changes belong in the installation scope.

Boiler Installation Planning

For a boiler replacement, consider the existing piping, heat distribution, controls, fuel supply, and applicable venting requirements together. Clarify which components would remain, which would change, and whether the project affects any connection between space heating and domestic hot water.

Heat Pump Installation Planning

A heat pump proposal should address the home's heating needs, electrical supply, equipment placement, controls, and proposed distribution arrangement. Ask whether existing ductwork can be used, what supporting work may be needed, and how the proposed system would work with any heating equipment that remains.

Frame the Installation Discussion

These concerns can help frame an installation discussion, but they do not establish that new equipment alone will solve the problem. Explain where comfort falls short, how the current system behaves, and what you want to improve. A replacement proposal should account for the home and its distribution system rather than assume that matching the old equipment is sufficient.

Prepare for an Equipment Evaluation

Before an evaluation, gather the current equipment details and describe any planned renovations. Note changes to insulation, windows, room layout, or finished space. Ask how the proposed sizing and equipment selection account for the home’s heating requirements, available fuel or electrical supply, and condition of the ductwork or piping.

Review the Written Installation Scope

Request a written scope that identifies the proposed equipment and controls. It should make clear which existing components will remain and which supporting changes are included. Depending on the selected system, questions may involve ductwork, piping, venting, drainage, electrical connections, or equipment placement. Do not assume these changes are included simply because the estimate covers a replacement unit.

Confirm Equipment Removal, Access, and Scheduling

Clarify removal and access before approving the work. Ask whether disconnecting, removing, and disposing of the old equipment are included. Discuss access to the work area, any preparation expected of you, and anticipated interruptions to heat, electricity, or hot water. Confirm the project schedule directly rather than relying on a general installation timeframe.

Clarify Permit and Inspection Responsibilities

Ask which permits and inspections apply to the proposed work, who is responsible for arranging them, and whether associated costs appear in the estimate. Keep these responsibilities in the written scope alongside the equipment and supporting work.

Plan for Startup and System Handover

Finally, clarify startup and handover. Ask which operating and safety checks are appropriate for the selected equipment and what records will be provided. Request an explanation of the controls, routine maintenance needs, and owner responsibilities, together with the equipment manuals and any applicable warranty documentation. Keep the final scope and equipment information for future reference.

Signs It May Be Time to Discuss Heating Replacement

  1. Rooms or floors that stay colder than the rest of the house.
  2. Recurring equipment problems that have prompted you to consider replacement.
  3. Heating performance that no longer suits an addition, renovation, or change in how rooms are used.
  4. Concerns about existing ductwork, piping, venting, or controls.
  5. Uncertainty about whether to retain the current system type or switch to another option.

+1
One of the best experiences I've ever had with a service company! I recently contacted New Era Plumbing & Hvac after discovering that my kitchen sink drain was leaking water into my basement in dracut same town as new era. Anyone who's dealt with leaking pipes knows that sinking feeling you get when you realize water is getting into your home. It's stressful, especially when you don't know how serious the problem might be. After looking into it further, I discovered that the original cast iron drain pipes in my basement were also leaking. My house was built in 1945, so these were some seriously old pipes! New Era had a plumbing technician at my house within an hour of calling. He thoroughly assessed the situation and even pointed out a few other plumbing issues, including my aging water heater, which was something I'd already been thinking about replacing. What really impressed me was how they handled the estimate. The technician put everything together right on his iPad and walked me through several options. I could replace just the leaking section, replace all the old cast iron sewer and drain lines, add a new water heater, or tackle everything at once. There was absolutely no pressure. Just honest recommendations, transparent pricing, and different options to fit my budget. The technician was incredibly friendly, down-to-earth, and genuinely seemed to care about helping me make the right decision. After reviewing the options, I decided to have everything done. The pricing was extremely fair considering the amount of work involved, and the value was simply too good to pass up. The project included: - Replacing the old cast iron sewer and drain pipes - Installing a brand-new water heater - Cutting and capping an old unused pipe - Repairing a separate leaking water line - Removing and disposing of all the old plumbing materials and debris Just 48 hours later, Steven L. and Mike showed up ready to get to work. Both guys arrived in uniform, smiling, friendly, and professional. Considering the mountain of plumbing work they had ahead of them, I couldn't believe how relaxed and confident they were. They made what seemed like a massive, stressful project feel like just another day at the office. That kind of confidence and professionalism puts a homeowner at ease. From the initial phone call and quick response time to the estimate, communication, pricing, and actual plumbing installation, the entire experience was outstanding. I've dealt with plenty of contractors and service companies over the years, and I can confidently say New Era Plumbing & Heating provided one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. You can tell this is a well-run company. Everyone I interacted with seemed genuinely happy to be there, took pride in their work, and treated me like a valued customer. Kudos to the owner for building such a great team and running such a professional operation. If you're looking for a reliable, honest, and professional plumbing company for drain pipe repairs, sewer line replacement, water heater installation, or general plumbing work, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend New Era Plumbing & Heating. Thank you to the entire team, especially Steven L. and Mike, for turning a stressful plumbing situation into such a positive experience. You guys absolutely earned this 5-star review!

Heating Installation for Homeowners in Andover, MA

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing a Heating System

Should I choose a furnace, boiler, or heat pump for my replacement?

The choice depends on your home's existing equipment, fuel or electrical supply, ductwork or piping, venting, controls, and comfort needs. Compare the supporting work required for each option as well as the equipment itself. Confirm which options New Era Plumbing & HVAC can offer for your project.

Can I keep my existing ductwork or piping?

Do not assume it can all remain unchanged. Ask whether the existing distribution system is suitable for the proposed equipment and which modifications, if any, are included. The written scope should distinguish retained components from replacement or supporting work.

What information should I prepare before discussing installation?

Have your address, current equipment details, fuel source, and comfort concerns ready. Mention planned renovations or changes to the home's layout. Explain whether you want to keep the same system type or compare alternatives.

Installation Scope and Next Steps

What should a heating installation estimate include?

Request equipment and control details, removal and disposal responsibilities, supporting connection work, applicable permits and inspections, startup checks, and handover documents. Clarify exclusions and expected service interruptions before approving the scope.

Are permits, inspections, and old-equipment removal included?

Those inclusions have not been established for your project. Ask which permit or inspection requirements apply, who handles them, and whether their costs are included. Confirm removal and disposal separately in the written proposal.

What should I ask for when the installation is finished?

Ask for an explanation of the controls, maintenance requirements, and owner responsibilities. Clarify which startup checks were completed and request the available records, equipment manuals, and applicable warranty documents.
